Kenya

Mombasa Coast

In February/March 2004 we made our fifth visit to the Mombasa Coast when we stayed at Southern Palms for the first time.

We returned to Southern Palms in February 2005 which tells you how we rate it - it is simply superb.

Peace perfect peace and the most friendly staff you could wish for.

Beautiful beach, wonderful pools - the best we have seen, very comfortable accommodation and great hospitality staff.

Everything five star except food which was more than acceptable.

We booked through Gateway Holidays a division of Somak whom we have used before - they are very helpful and professional in the way that they handle your enquiry and booking. See www.gatewayholidays.co.uk/

For our first three visits in 1998, 1999 and 2001 we stayed at Travellers Tiwi Beach Hotel

It has changed ownership and on our visit to Kenya in March 2004 we dropped by to meet the new manager and our friends in the team.

It is an activity based hotel and is not the haven of peace that we enjoyed in our three stays there.

The food and staff are as great as ever and the new manager has great plans to improve things - watch this space!

During our visit in 2005 things are already improving and the same lovely staff are still there.

The web pages linked below are from our visit in 2001.

India

In April 2006 we made a trip of a lifetime to visit India where Anne's father worked for over ten years in the 1930s. It was everything and more than we could have expected .

Please visit the web site that we published at www.smileindia.org.uk which describes our wonderful experiences in detail.

West Coast of America

San Diego

In April/May 2004 we made yet another trip to the West Coast of the USA and following visits to friends around the San Francisco Bay headed to San Diego where we stayed at Hotel La Jolla at the Shores.

We had a lovely time and the hotel had simply stunning views of the beach and the Pacific Ocean.

The staff were great and the food was very good. It was good to tour around San Diego and La Jolla where we spoilt ourselves for lunch at The Marine Room.

The concierge at the hotel was great - by name Paola - for him nothing was too much trouble!

The Grand Canyon

After San Diego we made our first visit to this awesome natural wonder - WOW!

We thought that this would be a once in a life time's visit but we are already planning our return which says it all!

We had the good fortune to have a Rim Cabin at The Bright Angel Lodge which was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our Regal Helicopter Trip with AirStar Helicopters - don't miss it.

Sedona

En-route to friends south of Tucson we at their suggestion visited Sedona just south of Flagstaff.

The mistake we made was not to stay longer!

Our lodging was simply superb at Casa Sedona with Donna and Bob and the scenery just beautiful - we will be back soon!

Madera Canyon, Near Green Valley, Arizona

March 2004 was our second visit to The Chuparosa Inn to enjoy the luxurious accommodation and warm hospitality of Nancy, Luis and Jenni.

It is a most delightful spot and on this visit we shared the company of the elegant trogon a rare and most beautiful bird.

We had a quite memorable stay at this Great Place - just 20 miles south of Tucson off the "Beaten Track"

The following are a few photos taken on our eighth visit in June 2007.

It is a simple but spotlessly clean, family managed offering a warm welcome and with a superb location overlooking "Le Port".

It may look basic but the views from the rooms with a balcony overlooking the port, beach and promenade are wonderful as the following photos show. Don't forget to ask for a room with a view "sur le Port".

Anne with chateau behind her.

Les in the sun with the lovely port behind him.

Where better to watch the world go by with a glass of wine at sunset.

Here are some more pictures  of our visit in September 2002 - very little has changed Cassis and our Hotel Liautaud are as ever lovely.
